Balochistan Restaurant in Fairview, New Jersey made my long sought dream of sitting in a “baithak” and sipping Dhoodhpatti Chai ☕️ come true. The food’s spice level was through the roof! There should be a little disclaimer for kids🔥 The Aloo ka Samosa, Karachi Biryani and Haleem were on fire! Delicious though! The Quetta Karhai was mild. The Chai came as a tastebud tantalizer haha 🤣 If you know you know. Have mirchi and then sip Chai. The place was a tribute to Balochistan - the Pakistani province known for tribal folk culture, cured roasted meat delicacies, and folk music. The menu however did offer us the popular Aloo wali Karachi Biryani. We couldn’t do the Sajji because it was practically $100 something for the full goat! 🐐 When I arrived around 9, the place was packed so I got my “Baithak” experience towards the end. I was able to chill with the niblings, indulging in their stories as I sipped my Quetta Doodhpatti. There was a selection of Sufi / folk music performances playing on a wall mounted TV. During my stay I revisited Afreen by Rahat Fateh Ali and a sitar player performed a Harry Potter instrumental haha - talk about audience luck! I’ve never been to Balochistan but belonging to Karachi, a city in the neighboring province Sindh, I enjoyed the common cultural elements. The American born niblings needed a guided tour
